BRUSH WELLMAN is a

Engineered Materials Company

  See how we do it.
Our infrared cameras capture the thermal fingerprint of plastic parts in real time as they come out of the press. Many people measure the temperature of the mold, but this can be misleading because metal reflects infrared radiation, and the emissivity of polished metals cannot be determined with any degree of accuracy. On the other hand, plastics don't reflect radiation, and their emissivity is easy to determine, so measuring them gives you the truest picture of your mold performance. Use the suggestions we provide in your unique IR Report to improve the thermal management of your mold designs. The end results will show you better quality, shorter cycle times, and reduced part costs.

Visualize the Results.
Brush Wellman IR imaging can help you make improvements in a number of ways. One of those might be to change core and cavity materials to MoldMAX® Mold Alloys designed specifically for the plastic processing industry. With thermal conductivity that's 5-8 times greater than tool steel, MoldMAX can improve part quality and reduce cycle times up to 41%. Click here for details about reduced cycle times.

Other improvements might include:
  • Adjusting water circuit size, placement, quantity and number of circuits.
  • Adjusting water temperature.
  • Adjusting the speed and/or quantity of the water through the circuits.
  • Creating turbulent flow in the circuits.

Using infrared (IR) imaging, Brush Wellman can expose "hot spots" (those irregular cooling patterns that undermine quality and increase scrap rates) in your plastic parts
and then show you how you can make improvements. It's a long way from yesterday's X-Ray glasses. And it's the best possible way to see what's going on inside your mold.
